Amazing selection of Malaysian dishes! Try the iconic char kway teow - full of tasty flavour, and the hearty hokkien mee (prawn noodle). The curry chicken was delicious. The dishes here are SUCH GREAT VALUE, I have never seen a more loaded dish than their hakka style crispy pork belly. You can also try penang chee cheong fun (steamed rice noodle rolls) and authentic drinks!

Hailing from Penang, this is hands down the best Char Koay Teow (CKT) that I’ve ever had in Australia. Very similar to the top notch ones you can find in Penang. Amazing “wok hei” (Breath of Wok) which imparts a charred taste to the noodles, as intended to be. Banana leaf is used as the base, it’s scent enveloping the noodles as one is savouring the noodles. Splurge a little extra on the duck egg for the best well-rounded flavour. Staff is friendly and courteous. Will most definitely return. Please note that this review is only based on a single dish and does not reflect the taste of any other dishes served here.

Great little kitchen in Burwood. Had the crispy pork belly. It was very nice accompanied with a very hot chilli sauce. Staff were friendly and the place was clean

A true hawker-style Malay restaurant with nearly 100% self-service. You won't find any glamorous cutlery or crockery here as they try to emulate a hawker centre as much as possible. Whilst I certainly didn't come here for tap water, it would have been nice to have access to that as well. Food itself is actually pretty good actually! Bak Kut Teh Soup: SS+, 9.5/10. My first time trying this herbal pork soup dish and it was actually really good. Savoury, umami and a little sweet with no pungent pork or herbal taste. Very clean. Pork: SS, 9/10. A few different cuts which were tender and delicious. Again, a clean taste. Other toppings: A, 7/10. Random lettuce and enoki mushroom were ok. Value: A+, 7.5/10. Decent serving for $22 Char Kway Teow Flavour: S, 8/10. Wok hei was there but could be better Texture: S+, 8.5/10. Well-fried with soft noodles and egg blended together. Prawn was still a bit crunchy which was good Value: A, 7/10. $18 is ok for Sydney prices Penang Hokkien Char Flavour: A, 7/10. Not much wok hei and fairly ordinary soy sauce based flavour Texture: A, 7/10. Noodles were not too soft which was good but a lot more soupy/saucy than expected? Toppings: A, 7/10. Prawn was nice and crunchy but not much else Value: B, 6/10. Probably would not pay $19 for this one again Char Hor Fun Flavour: A+, 7.5/10. It's decent but not as good as the ckt Texture: A, 7/10. A bit too gloopy for my liking Value: A, 7/10. $20

Absolutely loved my experience at Tasty of Penang! The food is super authentic, just like what you’d get in Malaysia. We had the char kuay teow and it was amazing. We really taste the wok hei you know that smoky, slightly charred flavor that makes all the difference. The noodles had great texture, and everything was cooked perfectly. It’s not easy to find Malaysian food done this well, and you can tell they really know what they’re doing. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!

The food is authentic and close to the one I had in Malaysia. The Char Kueh Teow with duck egg was excellent and the Penang Hokkien Char was one of the best I have eaten in Sydney. Also tried the Wanton Mee, it tasted good but my only gripe is the char siew pork was on the fatty side to my liking. Looking forward to try the rest in my next visit.

My first time here tonight and it won’t be my last. This wonton mee dry would have to be one of the best dishes I’ve had this year! I literally ate everything. The pickled chilli was it goes so well with the dish. I asked for another serving of the pickled chilli. It was that good. $18 special on a Friday night, cash paid. The milk tea was so yummy too. Thank you for making my belly happy
